Wat Pho-The Reclining Buddha

Writer's picture: mnjsalsamnjsalsa

Our tour guide delivered us back across the river to Rattanakosin Island, directly south of the Grand Palace. This colossal Buddha is known as the Reclining Buddha, and was completed in 1788 founded by Rama I. Many of us are wondering, is it really made of gold? Inside the ubosot is a gold and crystal three-tiered pedestal topped with a gilded Buddha made of a gold-copper alloy, and over the statue is a nine-tiered umbrella representing the authority of Thailand. One of the oldest and largest temples in Bangkok, Wat Pho, is home to the largest Buddha in Thailand measuring more than 150 feet in length. Impressive indeed!
