Our second stop was the city of Vernazza, which was a city with a port for boats, a castle, a yummy restaurant and a gelateria. I tried two flavors; pistachio and ricotta with figs and walnuts while Angelina had hazelnut, so delicious! I found a sign with my Sister Katrina´s name on it and had to send it to her! It was an Italian women´s clothing boutique that looked really cute, but was closed for the Winter. Yes, it was 42 degrees that day. The ¨carrugi¨ (narrow lanes) and steep stairways reminded me of Greece, and led to the castle. It was once used to defend against the pirate attacks. Many boats are shored up for the Winter here next to the harbor. It has a notable rock pier, great for a picnic. -Mona
Vernazza was a very small town but pretty too and it had terraces of plants and grass behind it. The white church is dedicated to Saint Margaret of Antiochia. The gelato was of course delicious like gelato is. When we arrived to Vernazza we were very hungry so we ate at a small restaurant and I had minestrone soup and Mom had pesto pasta. This town is quite and cozy I would come here to relax and sleep. -Angelina
