Then and Now

Lakeside Amusement Park is a family amusement park in Lakeside, Colorado, near Denver. Originally named White City, it was opened in 1908 as a popular entertainment complex adjacent to Lake Rhoda by the Denver tramway, making it a trolley park. The amusement park was soon sold to Denver brewer Adolph Zang. -Wikipedia

I found these photos when I took Angelina to her play practice with The Curtain Playhouse. They are displayed in the lobby of a building near the amusement park, where the troupe practices and performs. The recent two photos were taken from the recreation center across the street on 2/27/19, a cold day in Denver, 16 degrees, brrr.

My parents both grew up in Denver, and Dad grew up in a house right across from Lakeside. From his front porch, they would sit and watch the car races on the South side of the park on weekend days. My Mom told me that she used to go to big band concerts and dance in the ballroom shown above. I am certain that my Dad did also, but that was before they met. It was a grand place in its' day. It is just down the street from our house, and I always know it is Summer when the lights come on and stay on in the Lakeside Tower. We have had some fun times at the park, then and now. -Mona
