Taronga Zoo, Australia

Our visit to the Taronga Zoo was a short one, just a couple of hours, but the day was spectacular. We rode the ferry from Sydney and walked up the hill to the zoo. The animal habitats are quite large and the flora and fauna is lush. I particularly liked the architecture with the beautiful wood and modern lines, but with the peaked eaves, it looked Asian in design. We had our hearts set on seeing the platypus, kangaroos and koalas, and we did. The inside aquarium for the platypus was quite dark, so we borrowed some pictures from the signs. The zoo is set on a hill, so there is a sky tram and the views are quite impressive of the harbor and the bridge. We would highly recommend this zoo, and one of the volunteers we met, Jane was very knowledgeable about the marsupials. We rode the ferry back to Sydney with her and she shared her story of growing up in India until she was 10, and then settled in Australia later on. All the people we have met have been so helpful and friendly.
