The Taj Mahal is truly an amazing place and a monument that gives an example of eternal love even after many centuries. Shah Jahan was a prince intially named Prince Khurram and he was born in 1592. He was the son of the fourth Mughul emperor and grandson of Akbar the Great. Shah Jahan had seven wives but his fourth wife Mumtaz Majal was his favorite and went with him everywhere, she also gave birth to 14 children. She died during childbirth of her 14th child. Shah Jahan promised her that he would never remarry and would build the richest mausoleum over her grave. He was so heartbroken that he ordered the court into mourning for two years. The Taj Mahal was made entirely of white marbel and other stones/jewels for decoration was brought from Makrana, Rajasthan, the jasper from Punjab, jade and crystal from China. The marble was hauled by elephants. The Taj Mahal took 22 years and 20,000 workers to complete it. When Shah Jahan died he was buried with his wife in the Taj Mahal. It is know one of the Seven Wonders of the World created all because of the love a man had for his wife.-Angelina
I had an amazing experience at the Taj Mahal, it has always been a dream destination for me, as it is a work of Art and Architecture for all the world to see. The story is entrancing and Mr. Jay, our guide told it in such a lovely way. There were crowds and lots of picture taking as was expected, but there was also a reverence that seemed to wash over the crowds. This place is a symbol of love, and I was encouraged to see the magnitude of believers. I said to Angelina that it took an act of love to build such a phenomenal place to spend eternity celebrating lives lived in.
