Mr. Sommai, drove us from our apartment along the coast past Kamala and Patong Beaches, and out of the taxi window we saw many elephants with riders. He stopped at the Kata scenic overlook of Kata Noi, Kata and Karon Beaches and took photos of us. Mr. Sommai is a very thoughtful driver, he gave us a ride from the airport to our apartment the first day we arrived, drove us to the show and picked us up after the show as well. We will be calling him again when we move to our next location, as he is safe, reasonable and reliable.
We arrived at Siam Niramit with plenty of time to enjoy the buffet and walk around the Traditional Thai Village. Also, we enjoyed the pre-show entertainment.
The Siam Niramit show was really amazing and pitch perfect. They did almost everything without talking, the stage was huge and had water as a part of it. There were animals incorporated into the show like, chickens, goats, an ox and an elephant. I loved the elephant! The costumes are so beautiful and there were so many different ones. The show is about Thai history and the three historical periods of Thailand. It is amazing how they could put so much history into a performance of one hour and twenty minutes. This was definitely one of the best shows I have ever seen. So far on this trip we have seen three shows, two in Australia and one here in Thailand. There were so many individual sets for each part of the performance. This show seems like a permanent one that is being performed every night. I wonder how much practice it would take to be in a show like this one? If you ever come to Thailand this is a must see and the food is pretty great too. They have shows in Bangkok and Phuket. You don't know what it's like until you see it. I would probably watch this over and over if I could.
I absolutely loved this show, and I have seen thousands, I would venture to say, it was in my top five of all time. The sets were incredible, as were the costumes, the dancing and acting, all superb. The performers truly take pride in their country, heritage and their depictions of Thai life and history. It is all beautifully done with integrated media narration for the historical parts. My favorite scenes include the mystical forest scene and the heaven scene. I really liked the use of water as an effect, and all the flying characters suspended from above. The use of lighting, sound, props, color and the special effects mentioned above all are crafted into a glorious whole. The theater itself is massive, larger than some in the Opera House, it was a Monday night, and the show was well attended. The story of Thailand is colorful and diverse, and the yearly festivals are wonderful to explore here. The entire evening was magical from start to finish with the food, the living village, the pre-show dancing, the main show and the after visits and photos with the performers. I would highly encourage you to see "Siam Niramit" if you visit Thailand, it is out of this world!
