Saint-Malo, France

Thursday, January 17, 2019 we arrived in Saint-Malo, France. I have dreamed of being here ever since I read the novel, All The Light We Cannot See by Anthony Doerr, and now it is real. What a gorgeous place, and once again it reminds me of my roots in Monterey, California. This is a special place and we are staying in the La Ville Intra-Muros area, already enjoying the sea air and walking the beach. Here is a bit of history from google:

Saint-Malo is a port city in Brittany, in France's northwest. Tall granite walls surround the old town, which was once a stronghold for privateers (pirates approved by the king). The Saint-Malo Cathedral, in the center of the old town, is built in Romanesque and Gothic styles and features stained-glass windows depicting city history. Nearby is La Demeure de Corsaire, an 18th-century privateer’s house and museum. (The corsairs were, French privateers and sometimes pirates.)

We are going to catch up on schoolwork and take it easy here. I can easily imagine living here, as it is near the sea (The Bay of Saint-Malo on the Channel coast of Brittany) and is, gorgeous! -Mona

Saint Malo is so pretty and calming, I already like it so much. Outside the city walls is the beautiful ocean and even though we can't swim because it's too cold we will still enjoy the wondrous views. I am so excited to relax and enjoy this great place in France! -Angelina

That was a most amazing book. What fun you get to walk around the town where those people lived (fictional but historical). I am glad you have time to rest and catch up on schoolwork. Jane came to visit Mom & Dad today for 3 days. It's sunny for the first time in awhile. I went for a bike ride and it was refreshing. I went to the Martin Luther King celebration at Trinity last evening. Mom & Jane go there're late and only saw the last 1/2 hour. It was wonderful and uplifting. Happy Martin Luther King Day to you both! Love, Chrissy
