Pompeii

On December 9, 2018 Angelina and I took the Metro from Naples to Pompei and back. It began as a cloudy day and during our walk around the ruins it rained heavily, and I was so glad that we had our rain coats. Pompeii is extensive with seven different sections and we spent five hours exploring the entire city, and focused on the places we felt were important to us. These included; homes, gardens, theaters (one large and one smaller), sanctuaries of key Gods (Apollo & Athena) the palace, a villa of mystery and the Colosseum. I was excited about the music memorabilia about Pink Floyd too! We ate lunch at a really neat place inside the ruins, that reminded me of a ski lodge, with a few choices of food and coffee and hot chocolate to warm up with. I am so grateful to have been able to see this archaeological site that I learned about in Western Civilization class at Stevenson many years ago. My teacher, Mr. Ellis was the best because he had actually been to the places he taught us about, and had his own slides. Yay, Robert Louis Stevenson School! I know it is morose, but I remember seeing the slides of the people frozen in stone due to the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius, and it was something I would never forget. The eruption of Mt. Vesuvius occurred in 79 AD. -Mona

Wow! Pompeii was amazing it was a lot of fun to see the ruins. I can´t believe we went to another historic site halfway across the world! My favorite things here were the Colosseum and Theaters, the big plazas and houses were incredible too. I loved the gardens near the Colosseum and the Palace they were so vivid and green. The white blocks that have circles on them look like legos. It is the first giant lego! I thought it was interesting to see the bodies trapped in the lava, we saw another area where they probably had molds or the originals. It was rainy but it didn´t get in our way, even though we were soaked we still had a great time! We walked for many hours and saw many amazing things and materials that the people made way back in AD. I really liked all of the tile work, it was so elaborate and in great shape! It was really exciting to walk along the ancient streets where a thriving city was long ago, it was like going back in time! -Angelina😁
