Our New Home, Chiang Mai, Thailand

Our new home in Chiang Mai is so cool. We have a gorgeous pool and a workout room, which we have sweat in twice. The pool is every day, as it is hot and humid. I really feel at home here, because it is beautiful with the mountains just behind us. Rather reminds me of Boulder years, but tropical. The people are friendly, and our condo is on a street called Suthep Road, and is right next to Chiang Mai University. There are daily food vendors, and we are able to eat an entire meal for two for less than ten US dollars. The area is full of scooters and there are little red trucks that are cheap taxis you may take for 30 baht apiece, which is $1.50 US. We spent our first day exploring the Central Shopping Center to have a meal and buy some groceries for cooking. We came back to our apartment to find that our kitchen consists of one hot plate (with many functions), a microwave and one wok pan. A fridge, of course, but cooking with one pan is a challenge. It is probably cheaper to eat out here. We have found Angelina some chocolate brownies at this stand, made by Naviin, and we have bought them two nights in a row. He was so kind to remember us. I have enjoyed my mangos with sweet rice for dessert. Just above, are mealy worms and crickets for those brave, protein seekers. That would not be us! It is a delightful community feel here, even though it is the fourth largest city in Thailand. It has a population of 174,235, but seems so small in comparison to Bangkok.-Mona

I loved going to the street markets in Bangkok and here there are many more choices for food, which I love even more!!! Also, there are yummy desserts here. At our new home in Chiang Mai we have the luxury of going to the gym and swimming in the pool. I love it! Especially after a workout you can just go downstairs to the pool and cool off. I think my Grandparents in California and Ecuador would like the smoothies and brownies. I am sort of a chocolate addict so having these sweets aren't helping me cut down on it, but you've gotta live it up sometimes. Oh, and when we were walking that night I wasn't surprised to see cooked bugs because on a show it said that they have them in Thailand. There is no way I would ever eat bugs (only if I had to eat them to survive) ewww. For the very adventurous types of people I recommend you try the bugs, but if you are mildly adventurous like me (and don't like bugs) I wouldn't try it. The food here is really great (if you like Thai food). The one thing is that I wish I knew how to speak some Thai, but we will pick up a couple of phrases along the way. -Angelina
