Naples Underground

Writer's picture: mnjsalsamnjsalsa

On December 7, 2018 we went to the, ¨Napoli Sotterranea¨ which is a network of tunnels and cisterns that is beneath Naples. Some areas of this underground city are up to 131 feet below ground. There are many excavations that were enlarged by the Romans to serve as aqueducts. There were many examples of daily life including; a bakery, laundry, dyeing shop, markets, a forum (court), a well, and dwellings. People took refuge there during the world war. In the same complex there were also a library, two chapels, and a museum. We found it to be intriguing and a worthy place to visit.
