Yesterday, December 3, 2018 it was raining so we decided to go to see the Vatican Museum and the Sistine Chapel. I had been once before many years ago, but it felt like I was seeing it for the first time, as there is so much to take in and experience. The sculptures are one of my favorite parts and we went into the animal sculpture room, which both of us enjoyed. The tapestries, map room, celestial globe (complete with our constellations; Gemini & Scorpio), a beautiful hat, crosses, bibles, the gladiator shoe, and the gardens were significant to me. Of course, The Sistine Chapel is a wonder, and we could not take photos inside, so I took pictures in the garden of our favorite sections from a poster. The eternal spark, the garden and the last supper are my top picks. We had to include soccer and car racing too! Perfect day for the self-guided tour, we caught a bite in the museum restaurant and headed on to see the Pieta! -Mona

I loved going to the Sistine Chapel yesterday. It was a dream and completely out of this world! It is truly one of the most complex and beautiful pieces of art that I´ve ever seen. The Vatican Museum was also very cool and I got to see many statues. My favorite statue was the black pig, I loved the statue room with all of the animals. I also loved the statue of Ariadne sleeping. It was a great place to see on a rainy day! Totally worth the trip! -Angelina

History: The Sistine Chapel ceiling, painted by Michelangelo between 1508 and 1512, is a cornerstone work of High Renaissance Art. The ceiling of the Sistine Chapel, the large papal chapel built within the Vatican between 1477 and 1480 by Pope Sixtus IV, for whom the chapel is named. The Vatican City is its own sovereign state with the Pope as it head. It is considered a separate sovereign state to that of Rome, and is the smallest country in the world!
