Kerameikos

Yesterday, November 9, 2018, Angelina and I walked in the afternoon to this site, about 20 minutes from our apartment (in Kato Petrolona) and had a bit of time to explore. There is a museum here that we did not have time to explore, but looked interesting. We were thrilled to see two different tortoises along our walk through this site. Later, we had a lemon soda on our balcony and had a good visit with my sister on the phone. Please pray for California and the fires, as many people we know are having to evacuate their homes in the Northern area and another fire is in Ventura, CA as well. The word ¨Propylon¨ means gate, and this area was one gate to the city.

Here are some facts about this site (borrowed from Wickipedia).

Kerameikos is also known by its´ Latin form, Ceramicus, is in an Area of Athens to the northwest of the Acropolis. The area includes an extensive area both within and outside the ancient city walls, on both sides of the Dipylon Gate and by the banks of the Eridanos River. It was the potters' quarter of the city, from which the English word "ceramic" is derived, and was also the site of an important cemetery and numerous funerary sculptures erected along the road out of the city towards Eleusis.

I'm glad you had a good walk. We can't really do that here as there is too much ash in the air. Our friend Marilyn just brought us each a mask and she was going back home to find things to donate to people who have lost their homes. I plan to do that today also. Love you both. p.s the pics are FAB! I saved the ones of you two bcuz you look great!
