Karen´s Place in Cairns

Writer's picture: mnjsalsamnjsalsa

We have stayed in Westcourt, Cairns, Australia from September 25 through October 3, 2018 and tomorrow is our last day. We have truly enjoyed our visit here and have appreciated having a home away from home. We have met so many interesting people staying with Karen. She is quite an accomplished Artist and Quilter, not to mention a world traveler and a super Airbnb Host. She hails from Ottowa, Canada and has lived in many different places including Papua New Guinea. During her time there she created 22 quilts, and this one, I just love, is of her favorite things and was completed using applique. We were lucky enough to be given the sweet birds and welcome quilt she made. We will take it with us to brighten up our future rooms! Karen has a beautiful home and truly goes the extra mile to take care of each and every one of her guests. We thank her for her hospitality. In the first photo, is a couple from Sao Paulo, Brazil, Ricardo and Amanda who are living and working in Sydney and came to dive the Great Barrier Reef. They are fun, friendly individuals and we enjoyed their videos and pictures of their sea adventures here and in Sydney. From France, we have met Alex and Emily who met at the Moulin Rouge, how cool is that? They have purchased a van and are refurbishing it to explore Australia for seven months, wow, very adventurous! Jitka and Chris are from Prague and Zurich, so maybe we might see one or both of them in the Spring. All are lovely individuals, what fun we have had here!

In my family both my Mom and my Sister, Christina are seamstresses and Mom has made many beautiful quilts. The one she gave Angelina for Christmas is shown below, it took four months to complete and is a variety of fish, each square is unique and the back is covered in sea turtles.
