We arrived at our airbnb on September 25, 2018, and straight away we were able to borrow Karen´s bicycles. We explored the esplanade area near the city center and the rode the bike path, seeing many activities along the way. There is a swimming pool called the lagoon, exercise stations with machines (we did a workout there on the second day), rock climbing, soccer, basketball, volleyball, a skate park and another kid friendly water attraction area. We found a field area and played some frisbee, the grass area was so large, I figured it is for rugby and AFL. We found a frangipani (plumeria) tree, the blossoms had fallen and it reminded me of our summer in Hawaii. Angelina loved the smell, and we enjoyed it while sipping smoothies next to the waterfront. The bird is a Masked Lapwing, and they were abundant in the parks. Later, we spotted kangaroo meat in the supermarket, Coles, and had to take a shot, as one would not find that at home. We loved the place we are staying, as there are so many friendly people and Karen, our hostess is wonderful! Her home is gorgeous and we will send pictures in the future. -Mona
What I liked about our first day in Cairns was that we got to ride bikes along the beach. I also liked seeing all the cool things you could do along the beach. Today we might visit the lagoon (pool) because we find out that there are alligators on the beaches here. I also like the people at our airbnb they are all nice and really friendly, a kind couple told us about England for our upcoming travels. We have also met couples from Brazil, China and France. Our hostess is from Canada and has traveled and lived in many places. I am most excited about the Great Barrier Reef. -Angelina
Hi Mona and Angelina! I just viewed your Adieu to Brisbane and all the Carin photos thus far. Thank you for taking time to share with all of us in the States! The costume/fabric curiosity is right up my alley. I loved making costumes in days past. Don't take much time to do so anymore but it's still a love of mine.
The bike ride looked like a wonderful time. The croissant at the café looked yummy! So glad you are enjoying yourselves. Today I will go to Orland and visit Michele as well as Debby who is driving up from Woodland. Both of them are semi-retired. Debby is doing landscape design for Michele so we'll have lunch and visit…
I can't wait to hear about your experience seeing the Great Barrier Reef! Also, the TWEENS got your postcard and it is hanging up in the TWEEN room!
