Cinque Terre

Yesterday, December 17, 2018 Angelina and I took the Trenitalia up the coast from La Spezia to three of the five cities of Cinque Terre. We went to the furthest city first, Monterosso al Mare and these photos are of that area. We read that the locals are known for their farming and fishing, and lemons are a specialty. We loved the rocky beach and the castle at the top of the ridge. It is said to have been inhabited by the lord Rufus of the Obertenghi family (feudal lombards), was built by the Genoese and was originally part of the defensive system of the city. We met a gentleman named Paul, who was explaining the mural with a quote on it from a famous Italian Poet and then we visited with him. He lives in Milan and has a summer home in Monterosso. He was so friendly and personable. The sun came out in full force and we were able to view the true colors of this seaside oasis with the longest beach. Simply gorgeous! -Mona

I am so happy I got to see Monterosso part of Cinque Terre! It was a small town to walk around and we saw lots of lemon and orange trees which are still growing even in the winter! Monterosso´s ancient name is ¨Rubra¨ because of the color of the hills at sunset. This was the biggest beach we saw today and quite nice too. It was still beautiful even if it´s not summer but I think I love it in winter too. The buildings are such vibrant and warm colors, maybe I will have a house like that. It would probably clash with the other houses in Colorado though.😁 -Angelina
