Chiang Mai Walking Market

The Tha Phae Gate is pictured first, and is the gate to the Sunday walking street market. It runs along Ratchadamnoen Road from 4:00-10:00 PM and features many of the areas best buys. If I lived here, I would definitely purchase items from this local market. Specialty items from Chiang Mai vendors include; silk, cotton, silverware, nielloware, wood carvings, ceramics and other kinds of handicrafts. We heard some local music, walked at length, had some ice cream, coconut and Thai milk tea, in a rectangular shape. It was just the thing to beat the heat, 91 degrees and a million percent humidity! I liked the vintage vinyl collection and caught a glimpse of another temple from the street. This experience was recommended by our Bangkok hosts, Chalitta and her husband Phumsit, as a must do, and I agree.-Mona

I liked the street market and if I lived there I would probably go there every week. It seems like it goes on forever and there are so many booths in every direction! Mom and I got elephant key-chains for our backpacks, mine is pink and Mom´s is blue with pretty patterns on each one. I´m sure there are so many hidden treasures in the street market but they must be so hard to find! It is very hot and humid here in Thailand so ice cream was good for us to cool off. As we were walking to our condo we saw a peacock perched on a ledge, I was surprised that it didn´t look like the peacocks that roam around the Denver Zoo. It was a beautiful species and I hope to see one of this kind again. -Angelina
