Cairns Aquarium

The Cairns Aquarium is a truly amazing place, and the three distinct biomes of the area are each represented in a fun, colorful and informative way. We learned so much about the jungle rain forest, river and ocean environments in an interactive way, and will hopefully remember lots. I asked about Billabongs, (a branch of a river forming a backwater or stagnant pool, made by water flowing from the main stream during a flood). The species that inhabit the rivers and estuaries are quite fascinating, as some spend the majority of their lives in the river and then move to the open ocean for spawning and finish life in the open ocean (or return to the river after mating). Some may inhabit either, such as the Whiptail Ray. We discovered today, that the salt water crocs are quire plentiful here and the beaches close at the event of a sighting. Much as we had planned to go to the beach (Trinity) today, we decided to go to the pool in the city center instead. Yesterday, the beaches were closed due to the crocs and Angelina prefers not to chance it, I concur. We go to the Green Island for the entire day tomorrow to snorkel the Great Barrier Reef! One of my dreams come true, so we are beyond excitement in anticipation of that epic event!

In Casuarina, Sarah-Jane´s significant person, Greg, recommended the bakery in Cairns, Che Zest for baking the best chocolate croissants, so naturally, we had to try it! We enjoyed the restaurant very much, and met Bayley, from Florida. She made me a lovely cafe late and I tried the Anzac cookies while Angelina delighted in her chocolate croissant. The chef, Minoru and Yu the sous chef are also pictured here. This restaurant is now open for dinner as well, so we may return to try more. Greg was right, we highly recommend this locale. Bayley made us feel right at home and chatted about her new life in Australia, so friendly! We thank you for the surprise croissants she gave us to take with, so yummy!
