Basilica Di San Pietro e Il Pieta

Writer's picture: mnjsalsamnjsalsa

Last night, December 3, 2018 we went to see St. Peter´s Basilica in the Vatican to see the Pieta, which is my favorite sculpture of all time. The serene beauty of the figures and the immense love shared between the two people simply radiates a white light from the marble. It is so moving to see it up close, as it is so lifelike. The plaza is a sight to behold and the basilica is so elaborate and huge. The tomb of the Apostle Peter is inside and what a spectacular place to be remembered in. I was so happy to be back to this holy place. I love Rome!-Mona

The Pietà is a work of Renaissance sculpture by Michelangelo Buonarroti, housed in St. Peter's Basilica, Vatican City. It is the first of a number of works of the same theme by the artist. The statue was commissioned for the French Cardinal Jean de Bilhères, who was a representative in Rome. This famous work of art depicts the body of Jesus on the lap of his mother Mary after the Crucifixion.

The Peità is heavenly and an astonishing work of art. I am so fortunate to have seen one of the most beautiful statues in the world in my opinion. It is very heart wrenching to think about the statue and it´s meaning to the Bible. I am really fortunate to have seen this work of art. -Angelina
