Our walk around the Arc de Triomphe felt momentous and purposeful like the other soldiers must have felt celebrating a victory after battle. We enjoyed the flower details on the inside and I liked how there was a flame to commemorate the soldiers and victories of France. It is tall (not as tall as the Eiffel Tower) and I remember seeing the roundabout around it in "Funny Face" with Audrey Hepburn and Fred Astaire. Another famous French landmark, with great history...check! -Angelina
History on the Arc de Triomphe:
The Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. The construction of the Arc de Triomphe in Paris was ordered in 1806 by Napoleon, the French Emperor. The construction of Arc de Triomphe was completed in 1836, after Napoleon's death in 1821. The Arc de Triomphe cost 9.3 millions French francs, a gigantic amount of money at that time.
