Afternoon in Saint Servan, France

Yesterday on January 28, 2019 Angelina and I set out to walk along the bay and headed South toward the Port in Saint Servan. We discovered the WWII Memorial on Cite d'Alet, and walked around the base ruins. It is an interesting history here, constructed in the mid-18th century, Fort de la Cite d'Alet was used as a German base during WWII. One of the bunkers now houses this memorial, which depicts St-Malo's violent WWII history and liberation. The tour office is closed until the end of March, which offers a guided tour along with a video accompaniment. We took our own tour and even looked inside one of the bunkers. The plaques commemorate the fallen U.S. and French military from 1939-1945. I saw a locking metal door that led to one of the underground tunnels on the site. I found that enthralling and would have appreciated going to have a look at those. We then happened upon a castle, that is astonishingly beautiful. I found some history about it here:

"Solidor Tower (in French tour Solidor) is a strengthened keep with three linked towers, located in the estuary of the river Rance in Brittany.

It was built between 1369 and 1382 by John V, Duke of Brittany (i.e. Jean IV in French) to control access to the Rance at a time when the city of Saint-Malo did not recognize his authority. Over the centuries the tower lost its military interest and became a jail. It is now a museum celebrating Breton sailors exploring Cape Horn.

The Solidor Tower is located in the former city of Saint-Servan, which merged with Saint-Malo in 1967.

It is featured in the 1957 Wendy Toye film True as a Turtle starring John Gregson, Cecil Parker, June Thorburn and Keith Michell." Wikipedia.

I find the Brittany Coast extremely pleasing and walking back to our part of town, Angelina found a large crab body, cool I'd say. It was a fantastic day! -Mona

I really enjoyed walking around on the Cite d'Alet and enjoying the beautiful castle. The bunkers were very cool to walk around and it made me sad how there are still wars going on in the world. I really love the beauty of this place, it is so relaxing. When we were walking on the Cite d'Alet we walked in the campsite and found a little mini golf course. It would be fun to play there in the summer! -Angelina
