Today, November 11, 2018 while 55,000 runners completed the Athens Marathon, Angelina and I toured the Acropolis Museum. The first two photos are part of an excavation, but we made a wish in the well two days ago when it was raining, with our lucky pennies. This museum is a wonder and I was enthralled with the statues of the caryatids and the relief sections of the Amazons! There were many statues of Athena, but we were only allowed photos on the third floor, so you just have to come to Athens to check out the other floors. This museum, as the name infers, is dedicated to preserving the ancient relics of the Acropolis and is a modern building with sweeping views of Athens.-Mona

I loved going to the amazing Acropolis museum today. It´s truly amazing to see artifacts from all the way back to BC. You get a glimpse of what life and culture was like back then. My favorite thing that I saw were the pieces (there was a model and parts of the real thing) that used to be on the Parthenon on the front and back of it. One depicts the birth of Athena Zeus´ head had to be split open by Hephaestus´ ax. Another one depicts the competition between Athena and Poseidon had a contest to see who would take control of of Athens and its surrounding territory, Attica. Athena won the contest and therefore the name Athens. It really shocking to me that after so much time and the Parthenon being looted and partially destroyed that some things are still in tact. This is definitely a place I would visit if you are in Athens. -Angelina

The Acropolis Museum is an archaeological museum focused on the findings of the archaeological site of the Acropolis of Athens. The museum was built to house every artifact found on the rock and on the surrounding slopes, from the Greek Bronze Age to Roman and Byzantine Greece. The museum was built in 2009 and is a great addition to this wonderful city.
